Nature in winter

Winter – and by that I mean ice and snow – transforms nature. It dresses it in delicate shades of whites and blues essentially, and at sunset and sunrise, beautiful warm pinks and yellow hues. Winter photography requires first and foremost you dress warm (from head to toes) and that you keep your photographic equipment well protected; in particular remember to always keep the batteries in a warm place e.g. inside your jacket.

Tips: before heading out in the cold and especially if it is snowing, leave your camera (without battery) and camera bag outside so their temperature can drop; this way you will avoid falling snow melting on your camera and lens when you are ready to take photos – you can simply blow it away with a rocket blower (never blow yourself on a lens/camera – the warmth of your breath will fog (and then freeze) your equipment).
