The fourteen islands on which the capital of Sweden is built endow Stockholm with a really unique setting. Stockholm is, to me, the most seductive capital in Nordic countries.

Gamla Stan, the Old Town, built between 1300 and 1500, bursts with beautiful historical buildings as well as great little restaurants and cafés. It is a charming place to be and to visit. Stockholm is also, like Copenhagen, very cosmopolitan and makes you feel a little bit at home abroad.

Stockholm and the metropolitan area house about two million inhabitants, roughly one fifth of Sweden’s entire population. It is Sweden’s political, economical, cultural and media centre and has been so for nearly 900 years.
