All roads lead to Rome. Everyone knows it. Astérix and Obélix knew it too. And thus they didn’t have much trouble finding it to defeat the Romans on their own soil. Since then France-Italy football matches have gotten bitter.
Roman vestiges can be found from Europe to Africa across what used to be the Roman Empire, but nowhere do they equal what can be witnessed in Rome itself. Whilst the city is not that big, I really recommend to take the time to walk around for it is the best way to discover Rome and feel truly immersed in History. Try though not to get hit by a car or a vespa. Because it is the Romans who invented the road system some two thousand years or so ago, you could think that by now they would have known how to drive, or at least have a very well established set of driving rules. But don’t assume so. They do know how to make heavenly coffee and that’s already a lot!
You will find in this gallery pictures of Rome, the colosseum, the Spanish stairs, the Trevi fountain, Saint Peter Church, the Vatican enclave, etc.
PS: And yes, the Pope and Berlusconi don’t live far from each other... |
