Florence is the capital city of Tuscany, an authentic and beautiful Italian region which has preserved its landscapes from being spoiled with industrial installations. The historic centre of Florence is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s easy to understand why while strolling about its many streets and admiring its architecture. Florence, the cradle of Renaissance, is stunning! However, its famous landmark, the Ponte Vecchio is, I think, very much overstated and altogether rather disappointing - but that’s probably because the rest is magnificent and so well maintained. Santa Maria del Fiore and the adjacent Battistero for example are amazing works of art, perfectly and meticulously crafted. Don’t rush visiting Firenze however. Take your time and follow this basic rule: one building, one espresso; one museum, one gelato; and enjoy local wines and delicacies in an osteria for dinner - go with the full monty: antipasti, primi piatti, secondi piatti, dolce and of course espresso, if you’re still a bit hungry ;-)
Once you’ve seen Florence, head to the heart of Tuscany, follow its winding roads and admire this unspoiled hilly landscape, the home of many castles and Chianti vineyards. And make sure to have Siena on your itinerary. Its historic centre is, like Florence’s, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tuscany bursts with charming hotels, often part of a vineyard property, which will be your guarantee for a perfect stay.
